DESIGNER: Shauna Mitru HONORARY MEMBER
SHAUNA MITRU
Glass Artist * Metalsmith
"Melting glass is my passion......
I love the process, the colors, the visual and tactile textures I achieve.
I love the challenge of merging silver & glass into a cohesive design."
Shauna Mitru is a self- taught flamework artist that creates each piece of jewelry by hand herself, from the beads to the silver work.
Shauna is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council & the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. She participates in a variety of local juried art shows. She learned metalworking with Jewelry Artist Megan J. Hazel. It was with Megan’s support & encouragement that Shauna was able to start the lampwork program in the jewelry room at the City of Regina - Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre. From 2006 to 2016, Shauna taught all the beadmaking classes & was the open studio instructor for the program. Shauna continues to occasionally teach advanced beadmaking classes.
In 2012, Saskatchewan was the one of the first provinces in Canada to start the Beads of Courage program in the hospitals. The Prairie Firebirds have created & donated over 3000 lampwork beads to date.
In February 2016, Shauna’s signature bead was added the Wall of Fame at Beads of Courage Headquarters in Tucson, Arizona. In the summer of 2020, Shauna was honoured to create a special bead design for the Aspire - A Spire of Hope project and she was the December 2021 Bead of the Month Artist.
