DESIGNER: Kimberly Sakudiak
Hawk + Aspen Handmade was born out of a desire to pursue a lifelong love of jewellery design. Designer & artist Kimberly began making jewellery at a young age, mostly for friends, family and the occasional craft sale. Kimberly studied Fine Arts (ceramics) at the U of R and has gained skills through formal courses in fibre, clay, & painting. As time allowed she immersed herself in jewellery making courses – taking silversmithing, stone setting, enamel work and lapidary. Kimberly also furthers her jewellery making skills through self study and is continuously adding to her maker toolbox.
Taking cues the local landscape, Kimberly sells her work under the name Hawk + Aspen which is derived from memories of a childhood spent on the Saskatchewan prairie. Based out of her solar powered home studio in Lumsden, the concept of slow fashion – quality pieces made to last generations – is close to her heart and her jewellery is created with this in mind. With a commitment to environmentally sustainable design using recycled metals and ethically sourced raw materials, Hawk + Aspen pieces are a statement against fast fashion.
A member of the Regina Jewellery Artists Guild and The Saskatchewan Craft Council. Hawk + Aspen is available online, at gift shops and in person at craft shows in Saskatchewan.
