DESIGNER: Elaine Gohlke
Inspired by her lifelong fascination with the vivid colours and textures of glass, Elaine Gohlke creates jewellery that often merges metal with the lampwork glass that she melts, molds and blows into beads.
Early stained glass and mosaic classes slowly transitioned into lampwork glass classes and, of course, the inevitable jewellery classes to incorporate the plentiful lampwork beads. Classes in blown lampwork beads led to a beautiful new look for wearable art and unlocked another world of experimentation that evolved into blowing small lampwork Christmas ornaments of various sizes and shapes, some with openings that incorporate small lampwork figures.
Various jewellery classes at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre led to learnings in a diverse collection of jewellery techniques using silver, fine silver, copper, brass, titanium and niobium. A recent progression has been integrating colour with metal via alcohol ink on silver, copper and brass.
Elaine is a member of the Art Gallery of Regina and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers. She is also an inaugural member of the Prairie Firebirds, making and donating hundreds of beads to Beads of Courage—Canada.
